101 Years Branding and Futbol

My first post about things that I love: futbol and branding and since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa just happen I think its the perfect time to talk about futbol and branding. In 2002 while visiting my aunt in Barcelona and backpacking through Spain, I had the experience of going to a FC Barcelona game at Camp Nou. Little that I knew about the history of the Club and its branding. I have to say that I got to see great players such as Rivaldo, Riquelme, Kluivert, Saviola, Luis Enrique to name a few!

Spreading the Word on Cause-Marketing

Back in May I read an article from Advertising Age that really stuck out in my mind and I have been on a cause-marketing kick ever since. It is wonderful how social media is being used to promote and bring awareness to cause marketing campaigns. I believe it is all of our responsibility to help one another to survive in this world and those who have taken the first step are inspirational.
Before the recession hit, digital and interactive technology advances were beginning to change not only the way we communicate with our customers and prospects, but the messages themselves. During the recession, the economy certainly slowed the adoption of "new media," giving many a chance to experiment with it, learn, and understand its business value. Now that the economic prognosticators proclaim that the recovery has begun, I predict that the adoption of new media will pick up the pace in 2010.

The public relations profession has really transformed in 2009 with the adoption of social media for business communication and the evolving utility of a great web presence. We now have more avenues to manage client messages and to strengthen and grow the associated brands. Change is sometimes overwhelming and the rapid rise of social marketing may leave some timid and unsure, but there is still time to learn and develop as the technique evolves. As a PR practitioner, I'm excited for the chance to shape the changing face of mass communications.

There is a well-known anecdote about Kellogg's and Post. During the Great Depression, cereal was still a new commodity and many didn't accept it as an alternative to other breakfast foods. Post cut its advertising budget and other expenses. Kellogg's doubled its advertising budget and expanded its promotional efforts. Kellogg's profits increased 30% and 80 years later, no other company has been able to unseat the King of Corn from its leadership position.
