When KIPP Jacksonville opened the first KIPP school in Florida, KIPP Impact Middle School, in August 2010, BROOKSLACAYO was retained to develop, maintain their website and build awareness and visibility using social media. We designed a website that was easy to navigate but also recognizable within the KIPP network of schools. Our role included front-end development, using ExpressionEngine CMS. We use standard web starts, XHTML 1.0 Strict, CSS 2, Flash, JQuery. We provide SEO and other optimization and monitoring services including analytics. The website design leverages the national KIPP brand, but enables KIPP Jacksonville to distinguish itself from the other schools in the network.
BROOKSLACAYO also supports KIPP Jacksonville Schools with public relations and social media. When Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 13, 2010, we assisted with event planning and focused on PR, having reporters from print and broadcast media on site with access to Secretary Duncan and other dignitaries including The Honorable Corinne Brown, who is a strong voice for education improvement in northeast Florida. The resulting PR had broad and deep reach; KIPP Jacksonville is “on the radar” for education in Florida and the southeast.
